To use the CA Online Malware Scanner:
- On the CA Online Malware Scanner Home page, select the type
of scan to perform. You can select one of the following
scans:
- Anti-Spyware scans and Antivirus scans search all locations on your computer to detect spyware and viruses
- Quick Anti-Spyware scans and Antivirus scans search locations on your computer known to be common hiding places for malware to detect viruses and spyware
By default, the scanner performs a Anti-Spyware scan and Antivirus scan.
- Click Start Scan to begin scanning your computer.
The End-User License Agreement appears.
- Read the End-User License Agreement.
If you agree with the license terms, scroll to the end of the agreement, select the option I have read and accept the terms of the end-user license agreement and click Next.
- If prompted, select the Install option to install the
Active X component.
You must select the Install option to download and install the necessary components. If you do not select the Install option, the scanner cannot load correctly. To reload the scanner page, press the F5 key.
The scanner downloads and installs the required components. This can take several minutes depending on your Internet connection.
When downloading is complete the scanner starts scanning your computer.
Note: If you selected both Anti-Spyware and Antivirus scans, the scanner initially scans for spyware and then for viruses. This operation can take a considerable period of time depending on the number of files on your computer.
- To stop scanning, click Stop Scan. Click Resume Scan to
resume the scan from the point at which it stopped.
During the scan, the CA Online Threat Scanner displays the file name, threat level, and location of detected threats.
When scanning is complete, the Scan Results tab appears, displaying summarized scan results.
Note: To purchase additional software to quarantine or cure detected malware, click the Buy button on the Scanner or Scan Results tabs.
- (Optional) Click the Print Results button to print your scan results.
